Best Apps for Japanese Learning

The number of apps for learning Japanese is astonishing. There are many apps for learning the alphabet, common phrases, Kanji, dictionaries and even hole courses of Japanese.
You can easily get lost in the sea of options.
So how to choose the best apps? There are plenty criteria for choosing an app that will fit your needs. The first and the easiest is the rating of the app. if people tried this app and rated it purely, they almost always will be right. But you can read the comments to understand the reason of the rating. You can also try the free apps yourself or try the trails of the payed apps.
When I looked for apps, I tried many but only few of them met my standards. To save you time and money, I'm composing this list of apps to touch all the aspects of learning Japanese.

The apps you should have if you learn Japanese:
  • Dictionary Takoboto. It remembers search history, you can save there lists of words. its' search can be in English, Kanji or romaji. In short, it's very useful and comfortable app. And it's free.
  • To learn the alphabet quickly, use the Hiragana and Katakana free apps. Thous apps are associative and have practise options which drilling the syllables into your head.
  • To learn the grammatical aspects, the culture, vocabulary etc. you will be happy to use the Human Japanese app. The only downside that I found in it, that you should pay for it about 4$. BUT you are not buying a cat in a sack. First you can try the light version, which is free, and then decide if this app is meeting your standards. It met mine.
  • The last impotent part is Kanji. The best app I found for the Kanji level N5 an N4 is Study Kanji N4 N5. As simple as that. It's completely free, has an intuitive interface and has complimenting apps for level N3 and N2. Another Kanji studding app is Japanese Kanji Study. It has the animations for the right way of writing each Kanji. It breaks each Kanji to its' components (I think it's the best feature of this app). And it also provides really wide vocabulary for all the levels of JLPT exam. The down side of this app is if you want to unlock the advanced levels for learning, you should buy the app. But if you use it just for the Kanji dictionary - it's free to roam around.

For intermediate learners:
After you have the basics of the Japanese language, the best way to advance is to read simplified texts of "easy Japanese".
  • The most useful and comfortable app in this area is Tangoristo. It gives you daily news in simplified language. It shows all the vocabulary list for every article and from which category of difficulty every word is. You can see the translation for every word and mark the words you want to keep learning. And the most important thing about it - it's free.
